What

Please join the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Subgroup of the GEO Programme Board in our 2024 webinar series and be inspired by engaging stories from around the world that celebrate gender, indigenous people and youth perspectives in the Earth observation community. These webinars will be held as the world is recognizing women, indigenous people, and youth on their United Nations designated International Days.

The theme of the 2024 International women’s day is Invest in women: accelerate progress. In this webinar we invite diverse group of women from around the world tell stories about how they have been empowered through the use of Earth observations. Gender perspectives within development and usage of Earth observation should increasingly be integrated when providing Earth intelligence. The webinar offers inspirational stories and examples of how that can be done. To promote inclusivity and accommodate the different timezones of the GEO community/networks, two separate webinars will be hosted to suit the Asian Oceanic and Africa (7 am UTC), and the Americas and Europe (5 pm UTC) regions.

Why now?

Celebrating the UN International Women's Day has become a tradition. It is inspiring to learn about what women of today bring to society. This year The Group on Earth Observation wants to showcase stories on how Earth observation empowers early career, senior professionals and women representing indigenous people. In GEO equality, diversity, and inclusion we are proud to present and enable women coming from all 4 regions of GEO to tell their fascinating stories. We can both learn and be inspired - and hopefully inspire all generations women to include Earth observations as they accerate progress.

Who is it for?

This webinar aims to reach the women of all ages, and all individuals within Global Earth observation community, scientists, data experts, innovation community, trainers, educators, researchers, applied scientists, policy makers.
